There are a few things you need to decide….
If you have never built a custom rod before, it can be very overwhelming.
I’ve narrowed down a list of questions that help guide you through the build process. By thinking about these questions, it will get us moving in the right direction to create your one of a kind BigFUUT Custom Ice Rod.
- What kind of rod do you want to build? One specific to panfish or walleye, or something all around?
- How long would you like it? Have a short shack or one big enough for 10 people? We can customize the length to fit your needs (within reason ;)).
- Do you prefer a reel seat or bands?
- What type of grip do you like, cork, foam, etc? Do you want a shorter handle on a longer rod?
- What type of wrap/design/theme do you have in mind?
- What is your budget? I can build a custom ice rod out the door at $100 or up to $400, it truly depends on your level of customization and the time involved in doing so.
- We build the rod how you want it. There is no limit on how to customize your rod.
Squatch Whisker 2.0 – 32″

Built in spring bobber! 6″ 1mm soft tip “Feel ’em breathin’ on the hook!” SW 2.0 will out fish anyone. If you’re hunting crappie, this tip will lift for that pesky crappie up bite!

Same 6″ 1mm super soft tip for a built in Spring Bobber, but El Squatcho has a fast taper to M/H. This rod can handle anything. It is a great all around rod that can make a dink feel like a whale but also handle that 35″ laker with ease.

M/H Walleye – Short soft tip for bite detection. M/H Backbone/Fast
Legend is a special cut of the El Squatcho blank. By shortening the soft tip, it still allows for bite detection but just enough bounce for jiggin raps, slender spoons and buckshots. Once they bite the power of the backbone is locked and loaded and ready for the fight.
Legend has proven to be an amazing walleye rod. By adjusting the length of the tip, we can get the action just how you like it.
Squatch Knocker – 50″

perfect hole hopper!
SK is a 50″ Fiberglass blank that has minimal backbone. This blank is super sensitive, no spring bobber needed! If you like hole hopping without breaking your back, Squatch Knocker is for you.

SW 2.0 – Perch Queen Special
Perch fishing is my absolute favorite thing to do. If you specifically like to target perch, you know you want a sensitive tip, that has jussssssttt enough bend for keeping the line just so.
By adjusting the tip and length of Squatch Whisker 2.0, I’ve come up a killer perch rod. The rod comes out to between 28″-30″ depending on the specifications.

If you’re looking for something specific, I’m sure we can find it! I am a big fan of using blanks from V-Line Custom Rods, he makes some amazing fiberglass and carbon fiber walleye rods and others.
If one of the BigFUUT blanks don’t fit your needs, that’s ok, we can find what you want! From a 12″ shorty to a 5′ whitefish rod, I got you!

Reel Seat
Grip Type
The grip is where you hold the rod. There are so many different ways a handle can be built, it is truly up to personal preference.
BigFUUT Standard Grips are made of composite cork. Other grip types are available.

Reel Seat
The reel seat is the part where you secure your reel to. It is a common way to customize your rod by changing color or style.
BigFUUT Standard Reel Seat is all black and size 16 which fits all normal Ice Spinning and Inline Reels up to size 1000.
If you plan on fishing with larger reels, we can increase the reel seat size to account for that, not a problem!

Customization
Want a certain length grip? Do you like a split grip where a design or name can be placed in the exposed portion? Let’s talk about what you want and how we can make it happen.
Natural cork offers a variety of different customization. Laser engraving, hand panting, thread or marble work.

Base Wrap
Base wrap includes a two color wrap. I try to make each one unique, simple and clean.
Included in all builds
Marbling
Marbling ensures an absolutely one of a kind rod. It is by far my favorite way to add beauty and customization to your build.
Color combinations are endless.
Marbling can be done as the main design area, accent areas or on your guides as well.

Dragonscale
Dragonscale involves laying down thread in various patterns and then covering it with a metallic or color shift thread. The end result is beautiful and resembles scales, hence it’s name.
Dragon scales can be done as the main design focus or in accent areas by the hook keep or under two footed guides.

Tiger Wrap
Tiger wraps are created by laying down one layer of multiple threads, coating those with epoxy and then doing another layer of threads overtop and discarding threads to create a wavy and optically groovy pattern like tiger stripes.

Spiral Wrap
Spiral Wraps are created by taking individual threads and winding them around the rod blank in a spiral pattern. The manner and order which you lay the threads creates a unique and stunning work of art for your build.

Thread Work
Thread work is a broad term used for adding designs to your rod blanks. These designs are created by wrapping individual threads in a specific pattern and measurements to achieve the final results.
Thread work is a skilled art and one that I am still expanding upon. Chevrons, Diamond Wraps, Cross Wraps, these are all different examples of patterns that can be created with thread.

Laser Engraving
Laser engraving is an awesome way to add personalization to your build. This is available on natural cork grips at this time.

Guides
Every rod needs guides! BigFUUT standard guides are black with silver rings and black or silver running guides/tip.
BigFUUT also offers rod guides in Blue and Prism (holographic color shift)!
Do you want all silver? Double footed guides? Recoil ice guides? Not a problem!
Pricing will vary depending on selection.
Pricing
As far as custom rod building goes, I try to keep my prices fair and within reach of most anglers.
Base Labor + Parts + Extra Customization + Shipping/Delivery
Rod pricing starts at $100.00 before shipping and goes up from there depending on the components and level of customization you choose.
Typical prices range between $115 – $150 and up.
BigFUUT Standard Build
Base Labor includes time and materials to complete the build and standard 2 color wrap.

Customization of parts for build will be priced at the actual cost of the item plus any applicable special shipping, etc.
Customization for Thread work, marbling, laser engraving etc will be based on level of complexity, estimated time to complete, and any additional materials needed to complete the task.
